IESA announces winners of the global startup outreach program in association with UNIDO, backed by Invest India, Startup India, and TiE Global

With a view to further propel India’s drive to a greener future with electric vehicles, India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) organized a global startup outreach program in association with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for startups in the e-mobility, clean energy, energy storage and clean transportation sectors. Supported and backed by Invest India, Startup India, TiE Global, and other partners, the program was a part of IESA’s 5-day long virtual conference and exhibition - India Energy Storage Week (IESW), focusing on Energy Storage, EV, and Microgrids, held from 2nd to 6th November. In the presence of a 10+ jury board from the investment community, 12 start-ups in energy storage, e-mobility, clean energy, and clean transportation were shortlisted from over 40 applicants. The three winners of the program are Minion Labs Private Limited (Energy Management), Navalt Solar & Electric Boats Pvt. Ltd (e-boats), and Jeevtronics (Energy) who have been felicitated with a complementary IESA membership and mentorship from IESA Leadership Council. IESA will take forward the Start-up pitch to the next level with year-long engagement with start-ups and support in investment and mentorship.

Securing 1st position, Minion Labs, a startup founded in 2017, helps businesses to reduce their electricity costs and improve their productivity by providing real-time device level electricity consumption insights using a smart energy device delivered through its Analytical platform. NavAlt Solar & Electric Boats, the first runner up was founded in 2013 and envisions to make marine transport more efficient by drastically reducing the energy and resources needed for building and operation. Working towards this vision, the company has designed boats and ferries combining advancements in Electric Vehicle technology, marine design and Photovoltaics. Securing the 3rd position is Jeevtronics, a company founded in 2013. Jeevtronics is a social + technology venture that has developed the world's first dual powered bi-phasic defibrillator(SanMitra 1000 HCT), which works even in geographic areas without electricity.

In yet another disruptive move, UNIDO in association with IESA and Customized Energy Solutions (CES) has also announced the launch of UNIDO FLCTD – Energy Storage Innovation challenge. Startups and leading companies are invited to apply for the innovation challenge before 18th December to get a grant of up to USD 50,000 for demonstration projects and beta deployments in energy storage & e-mobility space in India.

With the eMobility sector largely dependent on large companies and conglomerates, the Indian market is on the path of consistent technological transition in the adoption of electric mobility and energy storage. This substantiates the emergence of new start-ups and new companies, which are not only emerging in the manufacturing and innovation space but proposing new unique solutions, addressing environmental concern, dependency on oil, intermittence generation from renewables and many such issues.

IESA has held several start-up pitches, organized competition & innovation pavilion since 2013 as part of its annual flagship event, and has worked with 35+ start-ups in this space.
